Bitsy (What's in my Bag)

Reactions:

*Picture from KateSpade.com

My boyfriend's family bought me this bag as a graduation gift. I love her, I named her Bitsy. She is the Kate Spade New York Gold Coast Elizabeth in Flo Coral. I'm in love! I asked my boyfriend, Chris, what I should name her and he said "Chris." I told him I wanted a girl name so he said "Christina." He's too cute. I went with Bitsy because it is a nickname for Elizabeth.

To keep her as clean and clutter free as I can I have separated all of my necessities in to their own little bags.
Photobucket

Medicine Bag- I have to carry an Epi Pen so have this bag is very important. Other things I keep in here  are hair ties, nail clippers, nail file and hand sanitizer. The bag was from a Target promo.

Make-Up / Coupon Bag- I only carry lip products with me during the day so that's why there is not much in there. In my last bag I had my lip product in little pockets but I don't want to risk any stains on this one so I added this bag. Other than that I have a little hair brush/ lint roller/ mirror, pen and any paper so coupons and my date book. The bag is a Hello Kitty for Sephora make-up bag.

Wallet- My wallet has all normal wallet-ly things, I think I might get a new one since this one is over a year old. I bought this at TJ Maxx.

Jewelry Purse- This is really a coin purse but I don't really have many coins and there is a spot for them on my wallet. I use this as a catch all for any jewelry I may take off during the day. I do this to keep my jewelry clean, safe and intact. This is from Coach.

Other things I put in my purse are my sunglasses and soft case, phone, keys, and occasionally my camera.

Yesterday I had an interview at Nordstrom for a Visual Merchandising position. I absolutely fell in love with the store and everything about it just fit me so well. If I get the job I will be part of a team of four that is in charge of over 300 displays and mannequins. This includes lighting, propping, using tools, building displays, etc.. Basically all of the visual displays.  They have a lot of creative allowance to dress the mannequins (they call them babes, so fun!) based on current trends and inspiration. Just taking the tour of the store and working with my interviewer I felt so comfortable, ready and like I belonged. I have an incredibly strong interest in this because I love working with my hands and tools to build and I love fashion, of course, so working in a position that meshes the two would be stellar. It is so fast paced, always changing and I love seeing the end result of loads of hard work.  Also, the best part about yesterday was that someone actually approached me to ask a question because they thought I worked there!

More about my outfit, a creative interview is little bit different than a conservative interview because have more freedom with clothing to show your personality and creativity. My interviewer said she was looking for someone for the younger, trendier section of the store, so I went with this look because I wanted a clean look that was professional but still young. Younger elements being; updated white skinny jeans and an open loose blazer then I added the neon coral belt for a touch of trendy.  I went with black and gold accessories that have a bit of a geometric feel; the triangle necklace, chevron bracelets and chain bracelet with a square design.  And lastly I just moved in my new purse, which is a similar coral color, isn't she beautiful!

Please keep your fingers crossed for me! I'll let you know in two weeks if I got my dream job!

DIY Ring Display (under $20)

Reactions:
Photobucket

I hate to admit it, but I have a lot of rings. More than sixty. Which is a little absurd for only having ten fingers, naturally my need to store and display them was haunting me. I found this gem at Michael's craft store for $15.99, by using their almost always available 40% off coupon I grabbed this for $9.59 (before tax). It is a 60 spool holder, meant for storing thread for sewing.

Last year I did a similar DIY (which you can find here) that held sixteen rings.

Photobucket
Supplies:
Spool Rack $9.59 (Michael's Craft Store)- Used 40% off coupon, this particular rack has 60 posts and flip out legs.

Testor Spray Enamel "Glossy Black" $2.49 (Michael's Craft Store)- I chose "Glossy Black" for a professional store display look. Used 50% off coupon, check the link above for current coupons.

Crystazzi ss 12 flatback Crystals $2.50 (Michael's Craft Store)- I love the iridescent look these have

Newspaper, Superglue

Method:
1. Read the directions on your spray paint and only use in a well ventilated and covered area.
Spray your spool rack every which way you can think of, this has so many nooks and crannies. Make sure you spray it when the legs are open, as shown, and look up down and all around for places to spray. Let it dry (per directions on can) and inspect completely for any missed spots before moving on.
Photobucket

2. For a finishing touch I added a ss 12 flat back crystal to each post. I used a dab of super glue to adhere each one permanently. Only took about 15-25 minutes for me to complete this step. These were just a little bit smaller than the post.
Photobucket

3. Arrange all of your rings so they are stored and easy to find.
(Also easy to see if anyone is borrowing!)
Photobucket

If you don't have quite as many rings you can also add some bracelets AND
Photobucket

a few necklaces too!

Please email me with any questions or photos of this DIY by you to:

Tips & Suggestions:
There are many different finishes to paint (matte, glossy, metallic, etc...), the one you pick should compliment your rings and decor. I love the glossy one because it looks store bought.

White would be a beautiful color to choose if you have mostly gold jewelry.

Spray paint is the best way to go on this project, trust me! I've tried it with a paint brush and it took forever!

We had beautiful weather all weekend, today being the nicest. My family met at my grandparents house for lunch and my cousin surprised us by flying to New England from Florida! I wanted to wear something cute and casual. I picked this striped knit pencil skirt with a plain white tank. To add some color I went for this sheer flower printed scarf. I've always wanted to try mixing flowers and stripes but I don't own too much floral, so this scarf proved to be the perfect piece to try it out.

Graduation Fashion & Beauty

Nail Polish- MAC Gee Whiz

Finding the perfect dress for my graduation was actually a cinch. My sister's old roommate had left her this 100% silk Arden B dress with the $150 price tag still on it.  At the time, we had both tried it on and something about it was a little weird in the top so we put it aside for about a year until I decided to try it on again and see what I could do. To my surprise I loved it, even though yellow has never been my favorite color. I think we had previously missed the adjustable straps, so I tighten them up and a dress was chosen.

One thing that really stood out, if you hadn't noticed, was my lipstick. This bold color, believe it or not, helped to break up all of the black I was wearing head to toe. I was pretty surprised by the amount of women graduating that didn't have a stitch of makeup on. I personally wanted to make sure I came out well in the once-in-a-lifetime pictures, especially because I washout very easily. If anything stick with a dark mascara to define your eyes.

Photobucket
I wore a cross-body bag dress bag to hide under my gown during the daily activities (I left it at my seat when I went up to walk.) I just wanted to show what I brought with me because this was so helpful!

Phone- Easiest way to find family and friends after the ceremony
Camera- You will be sitting close to the stage, snap pictures of your friends walking
Mirror- There will be professional photos while you walk and then an individual photo when you leave the stage
Lipstick of Choice- Rimmel London 940 Berry Queen, for touch ups
Q-Tip- For lipstick mistakes
I would also suggest mints, gum or a granola bar (and maybe some extras for your friends)
I was starving along with everyone else because we had to be there an hour early plus a 3 hour ceremony.

 TIPS-
Wear a slip or nude body shaper item to avoid bright sunlight showing your undies.
Do a photo test outside before you leave the house.
Put your hat on then curl your hair. Secure with bobby pins in an X one set behind each ear and one set in the back.

"The tassel's worth the hassle!"

Reactions:
I graduated from my University today with 1,100 others students and it couldn't have been a better day. If you've been following my blog the past two years you've heard all my complaining about papers, projects, commuting and my rejoices of snow days. After four years all my hard work has paid off. I was inducted into Lamda Pi Eta, a communication honor society; was treasurer of the Public Relations Society of America, planned music events for students, contributed to my Universities' newspaper, planned a successful community event for senior citizens, worked part time, took summer classes, learned how to horse back ride, wrote a twenty page paper (plus a few ten page ones) and most rewarding of all I met so many amazing people I will never forget.

Congratulations to the Class of 2012, you have deserved everything you have worked for!

Sassy Sheer

Reactions:
Photobucket
If you are wondering, yes, I have one painted fingernail.
I actually had time tonight to sit down and paint the rest, I multitasked and caught up on the last two episodes of Gossip Girl! I picked this deep pink nail (MAC- Gee Whiz) for my graduation day!

Also I hope you noticed I totally redid my layout! I am so happy with it, I should be after two 2am nights! I am focusing a lot more on my blog now that I will be free of school, you do not know how happy I am!

I guess I should get on to my outfit; I am loving this sheer shirt dress for these blustery spring days! It hit just about 70 today and this kept me at just the right temperature without a coat. I bought this about 3 weeks ago at TJ Maxx for $19.99 and I actually saw it in Macy's a week later in white for $39! I actually wanted to buy it in white. The material was a little thicker, but still sheer and I almost did but I couldn't bring myself to do it knowing the deal I got on this one. Well tomorrow, or today rather, I am going to the same Macy's maybe it will still be there... for less?!

(inexpensive) Everyday Natural Makeup Look & Rambling

Reactions:
I'm not very complex when it comes to make up, I like very basic products.  I refuse to spend hundreds of dollars on makeup and beauty products. Not only do I not have the money for it, I have always had really good luck with drugstore makeup.  For years I had been using New York Color, not only was it affordable but, I was asked multiple times a day what kind of make up I used.

When I started hearing news about parbens, a possible cancer causing chemical put in beauty products to preserve them, I freaked.  I started digging through my half used hair products, lip glosses, lotions, eyeshadows, blushes, mascaras and filled my trash barrel up twice with the offending products. Much to my disappointment  NY Color uses parabens in all of my favorite products.

I know, of course, that parabens aren't the only bad chemical in makeup; according to a local news station, women put 120 chemicals on their body via beauty products and men are typically exposed to 84 chemicals D A I L Y! I've done some googling and parabens are absorbed directly in through your blood stream and affect your hormones and endocrine system. Gross! Maybe you're thinking I should just switch to the fancy stuff?? Actually some high end products use parabens in their products too.  Use the Skin Deep Cosmetic search tool to search through the thousands of product ingredients.  It doesn't list every single product or brand but it has a really good range of products and uses a rating system to tell you how dangerous your product is based on the ingredients.

I was then on the hunt for better products, and I found them.

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
ELF Flawless Foundation w/ SPF 15 $6
ELF High Definition Powder $6 - Does make me a little white, I haven't tried it out in photos yet.
ELF Translucent Matifying Powder $3

And these ones I would like to try:
Photobucket Photobucket
ELF Pressed Powder $3
ELF Studio SPF 45 Sunscreen UVA/ UVB Protection $6
All pictures from the Elf.com

This is what I use for an everyday inexpensive natural makeup look:
Photobucket
-Essence Soft Matt eyeshadow & blending brush- for the crease
-Beauty Rush Luminous Shadow- Under brow highlighter
-ELF Tone Correcting Powder & Face Brush- I use this to set my foundation along with the ELF Matifying Powder above
-Mehron Celebre Pro HD cream makeup (I use a triangle sponge or my finger to apply)- I mainly use this as an under eye concealer, it is amazing!
-ELF Flawless Foundation w/ SPF 15- Not only does this have a pump but it had build able coverage that lasts. I apply it with a wet triangle sponge for a flawless finish.
-Mac Brow pencil in Taupe- This works wonders for a bold brow that looks natural.
-New York Color Sky High Mascara- Not sure if this is 'safe' NY Color doesn't list product ingredients online but, I've been using this for several months and it works really well.
- Rimmel London Blush in Pink Sorbet & Face Brush- This is a really fun pink color but not to bright.
My lip products change daily, I like a coral lip for everyday.

Do you bother with checking make up ingredients & if your favorite product was bad for you would you still use it?

InPink Winner & Review

Reactions:
Thanks to J's Everyday Fashion and InPink I was a winner of a $40 gift card to InPink, an online jewelry boutique. Once I found out I won, I went on the website so many times looking through all of the pieces and deciding what piece I would love to have.  I love the way website is set up, you can shop by collection or many other categories such as price, color, or style.  That made it easier to shop the site, I love categorizing things.

I finally decided upon this gorgeous sea life choker, I see pieces like this come through TJ Maxx every summer but, I could never afford one of my own. It is great quality, each bead and charm is secured on the multiple chains.

I was also very impressed by the packaging, it was sent UPS standard shipping. This was the basic packaging, although you could choose gift packaging, the basic packaging was gorgeous and not what I was expecting. Inside the silver box the necklace was wrapped in tissue and there was tissue in the box to ensure it was protected during shipping.

P4300303
This necklace was $48, before I purchased it I looked up coupon codes and found one for 30% off (Pink4274- if it still is available).  The price was brought down to $33.60, I used the rest of the gift card to pay for the $6.95 shipping, the total I paid was $0.55.

Overall, I think $48 is a fair price for this piece, I've seen many comparable ones at $60-$120.  With a 30% off coupon code, I think this necklace is steal! I promise you won't find anything with this quality for a price this low!

Thanks Again InPink and J's Everyday Fashion for the fabulous giveaway!

Senior Ball

Reactions:
As a celebration to the end of the semester for seniors my University held a senior ball.  The theme was "These Lights Will Inspire You." It was a very fun night with great music and better friends, very reminiscent of prom, but with liquor that was, of course, consistently dropped all over the dance floor. I also wore these shoes to my senior prom and I must say I forgot how uncomfortable they were!

I was very excited to wear this dress, I've had it for two years and this was the perfect occasion to wear it. There were actually a lot of other girls wearing this color too, it is very flattering! Thanks again Leah for taking these pictures for me!
